Healing herbs are essential in our diet to promote good health. Healing herbs in tea contain properties that benefit general well-being. Culinary herbs have nutritional properties that often contain a generous amount of vitamins, minerals and trace elements. Herbal teas are a great benefit to promote good health as it contains properties that have a significant contribution to well-being; the qualities include refreshing, soothing and invigorating.
A precaution with healing herbs is to make sure you do not take these powerful herbs in excess. Ensure that you do not make teas stronger than normal or drink them more frequently than is recommended. Always seek medical advice before taking any herbal remedies if you are pregnant.

By infusing healing herbs in boiling water may not be enough to extract the constituents from the roots to the bark; harder plant material need to be boiled and the resulting liquid from this is called a decoction. An ointment can contain oil and fats and no water, therefore it is useful to form a protective film over the skin; a natural recipe that can be made at home quite easily for an ointment is a vegetable oil like sweet almond or sunflower mixed with beeswax. Mashed herbs form the basis of a poultice; the benefits are healing of bruises, sprains and sores. Poultices are applied directly to the skin and they can be hot or cold (hot aids with strains where cold helps with inflammation). A healing herb compress is where a length of fabric is dipped into an herbal infusion and applied to the skin; they are a gentle remedy that is beneficial for many different ailments from headaches to period pains. |
